Lenny has helped shape Comic Relief and played vital roles in the development of its Red Nose Day and Sport Relief campaigns, helping the organisation raise over £1bn and – more importantly – enabling Comic Relief to help millions of people to change their lives for the better.

Sir Lenworth George Henry steps up to his new role of Honorary Life President, having been a trustee of Comic Relief for 27 years. In his new position, Lenny will support the organisation, championing the work Comic Relief funds and drawing attention to the issues the charity is seeking to tackle. He will continue to act as a senior ambassador for Comic Relief, allowing the organisation to draw on their huge knowledge, experience and expertise.

Lenny knows making any kind of change requires original thinking, skill and initiative. If we really want change, we all need to get involved and bring the very best of ourselves to the challenges we face.

Lenny says; "Comic Relief's success is down to the ingenuity of the trustees and people who make these things happen – we wouldn't be anywhere without them."

Lenny inspires millions just as he was inspired by his mum who ’always stressed about helping people that are worse off than yourself … and lead by example’.  Something that Lenny has always done.

So, if we want any kind of real, lasting change then leadership has to be just that, we have to lead by example whilst demonstrating resourcefulness and imagination and, hopefully, exhibit Lenny’s sense of humour, humility and kindness.

Sir Lenny Henry hosted CCA Gala Dinner and Excellence Award Ceremony in Glasgow on 13 November 2019.
